Bump Update #11

Bump Update

How far along: 24 Weeks, 1 Day

Due Date:  August 18, 2013

Baby’s Size:   The baby is about the size of an eggplant.  The other app wasn't working for me today so this is what I am going with.

Total weight gain:
Um... I am one pound shy of my pre pregnancy weight.

Maternity Clothes:  Pants yes, I am still getting by with some pre preggo tops but not many.  I did pick up a few tops that I hope will get me by.

Sleep:  Now that I have a back pillow I am sleeping like a baby.  That is in 2-3 hour clips because of the baby sitting on my bladder.

Best Moment this week:  Hearing the baby's heartbeat at the last appointment.

Worst Moment this week:  Trying to figure out the logistics of this cyber baby shower so I am not talking into a camera and seeing only myself.  Ugh.  Thank you skype for being so very cheap.

Miss anything:    Sleeping on my back, Pants that button, not peeing 3,000 times a day, Being able to sit comfortably without repositioning myself 20 times in an hour, Working out normally, Running (oh how I long to start running again!), not having to worry about how to make food safer so it doesn't effect the baby.

Food Cravings / Aversion:   I have been craving carrots, celery, and just about any veggies you can list.  A salad for dinner it will be.  I haven't had any real aversions lately.  I'll count my blessings on that one.

Movement:  Tons!  He is dancing up a storm in my belly.  I do find it a bit funny that as soon as hubby puts his hand on my belly to feel the baby stops moving.

Gender:  This baby is still all boy!

Belly Picture:  The belly is growing and growing!  Again please excuse the horrible hair and lack of makeup.  I will try to take a better pic next week.

Baby / Parenting Book I am Currently Reading:  I am still reading bringing up Bebe.  It's a fabulous book but I can't seem to keep my eyes open at night to keep reading it.  This is more a reflection on my tiredness than the quality of the book.  When I'm not super tired its hard to put down.  I may need to start reading more during the day so I can finish it.  I may take a break from parenting and pregnancy books for a bit after this one.

Looking forward to:  Completing the nursery for the most part.  It's one room in the house that needs to be overhauled.  Needless to say there will be a big garage sale in our not so distant future.

This week’s Baby Task:  This week I need to paint the letters for the baby's name.  Paint the nursery art that I never did last week.  I also need to wash the crib bedding and blankets as well as prep all of the cloth diapers.

Bump Update #10 - with bump pic Eeek

Bump Update

How far along: 23 Weeks, 2 Days

Due Date:  August 18, 2013

Baby’s Size:  The baby is somewhere between the size of an ear of corn (8.5in, 1.5lbs) and a Grapefruit (10.5in, 12.7lbs)

Total weight gain:
Again nothing so far.  I am however getting closer to my pre- pregnancy weight.  This is making me feel better.

Maternity Clothes:  I keep saying this and I just need to suck it up and buy some dang maternity tops!  I keep putting it off but I am starting to look pretty silly.

Sleep:  I have rediscovered sleep.  Most days lately I sleep well.  It's the rough wake ups that seem to be getting me.

Best Moment this week:  Seeing the baby mail come pouring in.  If my growing belly isn't proof enough that there is a little one coming, all of his stuff will certainly do it.

Worst Moment this week:  Not being about to shoot at the range with Hubby and his brother.  According to the doctor I am allowed to go to outdoor ranges (which ours is), I shoot nothing bigger than a .22 (which I typically don't), Someone else loads the weapon for me (hubby agreed to) and that no one around me is shooting anything high caliber.  We got there the range was empty.  I let my hubby and Brother in law shoot for a bit and then right before I was about to shoot some idiot brings out 3 different high caliber rifles.  The man takes 2 shots to which I could feel the shock wave.  needless to say the baby was not happy about that so I went and sat in the car until hubby and my BIL were done.  Oh well Guess I will wait until after the baby is born to go back.

Miss anything:  clothes fitting, cold deli sandwiches, runny eggs, sleeping on my stomach, and mostly being about to workout! Sadly I miss my yoga dvd first thing in the morning.  It helped me ease into waking up.  I picked up a pregnancy yoga dvd set that goes through each trimester but I haven't been allowed to use it yet.  I am hoping that soon I will be able to at least go for walks or do light exercise.

Food Cravings / Aversion:  I have been craving fresh fruit (mostly oranges) and fresh cut veggies (mostly Cucumbers).

Movement:  Lots but nothing too powerful yet.

Gender:  The baby is a boy.

Belly Picture:  Hair, makeup and wardrobe must have gotten the wrong address so please excuse my early morning look.  However this is the current belly picture.    In the past two weeks or so I would say that I have gotten significantly bigger in the belly area.  This pic however makes me look bigger than I actually am.  I am sure that it doesn't help to be wearing a shirt where I am pushing the limits of the seams or baggy pajama pants.  oh well no one said being pregnant was glamorous especially not when cleaning the house.

Baby / Parenting Book I am Currently Reading:  I am still slowly reading Bringing up bebe.  Don't let that be a reflection on the book though as it is very very good.

Looking forward to:  My appointment in a couple of days.

This week’s Baby Task:  I am doing nursery crafts this week.  I am making clothing dividers (my top priority) and (maybe we'll see) painting the artwork for the room.  If I feel like getting super ambitious I might even pick up the letters for Mudbugs' name and painting those as well.  I also need to assemble the shelving unit for the closet, make labels for it, purchase children's hangers, and put all the clothing away.  I am sick of of the room looking the closet threw up.  I should also stop buy lots of used kids clothing too but more on that another day.

Bump Update #9 - Gender Reveal!!!!!

Bump Update

How far along: 22 weeks, 2 day

Due Date:  August 18, 2013

Baby’s Size:   Yay they agree again!  The baby is the size of a Papaya.

Total weight gain:
I am currently at my pre pregnancy weight.  I have a feeling that I will start gaining weight soon.

Maternity Clothes:  Obviously I am wearing maternity pants as I have been for some time now.  I have however picked up two maternity tops.  This isn't cutting it. Looks like there will be some shopping in my future.

Sleep:  Sleep is pretty good.  I cancelled my order for the pregnancy pillow as I have had no issues with just a pillow between my knees.  I am actually happy with my decision to not buy one.

Best Moment this week:  Hunter finally being able to feel mudbug kick or punch really.  It was light but he still felt it.  If only he could feel half of what I do on a daily basis.  We also had a long Anatomy scan with lots of pictures.

Worst Moment this week:  hmmm...  I don't think anything that bad happened this week so I will just be thankful for that.

Miss anything:  Being about to hey out of bed without feeling like I just pulled off some fabulous gymnastic move.

Food Cravings / Aversion:  I have been craving Italian food or to be able to eat a runny egg!  This week I haven't had anything turn on me but I have still been avoiding shrimp.

Movement: Tons!  This baby could very well be the next great boxer with all of the punches he is getting in daily.  Well I am assuming they are punches.

Gender: Mudbug is a BOY!!!!  We are beyond excited!  We also aren't shocked in the slightest but we are OK with that.

Belly Picture:  I had the very best intentions on posting a belly picture this week. However the mirror never got hung up.  Oh well, there is always next week.

Baby / Parenting Book I am Currently Reading:  I am reading and loving Bringing up Bebe.

Looking forward to:  My next appointment.  Another week down.  A bit more of the nursery being completed.  The box of baby boy clothing that my sister in law sent me.  The various baby purchases that will come flooding in this week and the next.

This week’s Baby Task(s): Wash and organize all baby clothing that I have acquired.  Maybe even figure out what is going into the dresser and what is going into the closet on shelving.  I also need to get children's hangers and hang up some of the items.  I am also looking into some nursery art.  I am not sure if I want to make the art or just buy it.

a look into baby food making

I planned to make my own baby food long before mudbug was even a thought.  When I was a nanny I had to make the kids baby food and so I see no reason why I wouldn't make my own baby's food.  It was simple and easy.  There also wasn't any of the fancy new gadgets that there are now that would make the process even easier than when I was doing this over 10 years ago... oh boy I fear I just dated myself.

At the time all I had was a steamer, a potato masher, and good old fashion elbow grease.  Yup that was it.  I would cook each items and make it as smooth as I could possibly get it.  It wasn't until three months into this that they picked up a small food processor to help.  I then started to make things in bulk using ice cube trays.      Being about to make things ahead made life soooo much easier.

I decided that there are a few things that are worth investing in to make my life easier.  We already have steamer pot and food processor but I think it could be worth exploring some of the newer baby food making equipment on the market.  Mainly the Baby Bullet, baby bullet steamer, infantino fresh squeezed squeeze station and infantino fresh squeezed steam & smush.

The infantino fresh squeeze steam and smush is basically a microwaveable steamer with a masher.  Its basic, simple and it will work while well when I am looking to try something small.  I would have loved something like this years ago.  This isn't even a question, we will be purchasing this.

The baby bullet is something that I have questioned the usefulness of.  I have food processor with various drop in size bowls so I wonder if a smaller food processor is worth the money.

Sure for small or quick meals this could be useful but I certainly won't be making mass amounts in this.  While I like the that there are two different size blending bowls or cups, I am not a fan of the food tray or the storage system.

Then there is the baby bullet steamer.
It's small and while it would work well for small amounts how often will I be making small amounts of something?  Couldn't the microwave infantion steamer above work better in a pinch? The only added benefit to this is that it also works as a sterilizer but only for small items like pacifiers or teething rings.  Once again I think picking up an electric sterilizer that would fit bottles might be more beneficial.  I should also not that I am not a huge fan of putting happy faces on children's toys.  When did this become such a big trend?

Lastly there is the Infantino Fresh squeezed squeeze station.  I am oddly excited in wanting to pick this up.

We all have seen these style packets at the super market.  They can add up quickly but because of their ease of use I can easily see why people buy them.  I think this would work great not just for infants but for things like applesauce for older kids.  If I'm making the food already then why not have something like this on hand, right?

Do any of you make your own baby food?  Have you used any of these?  Am I missing something that would make my life easier?  tell me what you think.

Bump Update #8

Bump Update

How far along: 21 weeks, one day

Due Date:  August 18, 2013

Baby’s Size:  Clearly the bump app remained the same and of course nothing agrees lol.  Apparently Mudbug is somewhere between the size of a banana and a  pomegranate.

Total weight gain: Once again there is no gain.  I am one pound under my pre-pregnancy weight.  I guess eating healthy isn't hurting me in this area.

Maternity Clothes:  I have been in pants for a while and am pushing the limits of my pre-pregnancy tops.  I desperately need to find good tops (on sale cause I'm cheap).  I'm debating just picking up some target tops that are non maternity a size up and praying that works seeing as maternity clothing is very limited unless shopping online.

Sleep:  I have rediscovered a decent nights sleep.  now if only I could bottle this for when the baby comes.

Best Moment this week:   Picking up the crib bedding for Mudbug.  I also scored two lots of gently used clothing that will basically outfit this kid from birth to 18 months.  There are some gaps but I will happily fill those in with some shopping trips.

Worst Moment this week:  Getting my hopes lifted and the smashed into smithereens .  Long story short there was a small chance of Hunter not deploying.  However that feel through the very next day.  Everything is going according to the original plan with slight modifications.  Oh well.  That's what I get for placing my hopes on a long shot.  On the flip side this current plan may get us out of here soon rather than later.  I'm all for that.

Miss anything: A cold cut sandwich that doesn't need to be heated, a runny egg, having energy, a glass of wine, or even a beer for that matter, my house not looking like we having triplets.  Yeah did I mention when you wash 4 over flowing boxes of baby clothes all at once your living room begins to look like the Duggars' laundry room. Or at least what I imagine it to be.

http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/duggar-home-pictures17.htm
Ok maybe it's exactly like I pictured it to be only with one washer and one dryer.

Food Cravings/Aversion:  I have been craving salads lots and lots of salads.  I also do just a platter of cut up veggies when I get bored of salads.  you know for variety and all.  Food Aversions....hmmm....  plain water.  it just doesn't sit well with me lately.  I found throwing a splash of Gatorade into it helps a ton.

Movement:  I think this baby is going to be a soccer player.  I am scared of the more powerful kicks that are to come.

Gender:  Later this week, after the anatomy scan, we will be sharing with our families the good news.  So next week I can share it with you all.  This is such a hard secret for me to keep!!!!

Belly Picture:  Again this one will have to wait.  I did take some with the intention of posting them here but i wasn't thrilled with the pics as I had to take them using the mirror in the bathroom.  I am tasking Hunter to put the mirror up in our bedroom this week.  no excuses.

Baby / Parenting Book I am Currently Reading:  I am reading this book.

My mother in law sent it to me when I mentioned that I wanted to look into breastfeeding.  I will admit that I have skimmed through chunks of this book as it talks a lot about ideas and concepts other than breastfeeding.  Things that I don't necessarily agree are right for me, like co-sleeping.  What is does have to say about breastfeeding is good information, I just wish it cam without all the fluff.  Anyone have any Breastfeeding books they could recommend?

Looking forward to:  The anatomy scan this week and sharing with family and friends the baby's gender.

This week’s Baby Task:  I need to organize and put away all the babies clothes.  I am also prepping the cloth diapers that I have.

Bump Update #7 (a week old update)

Bump Update

How far along: 20 weeks, 1 day   (Yay half way there!)

Due Date:  August 18, 2013

Baby’s Size:

Total weight gain: Again nothing... still down 3-4lbs on any given day

Maternity Clothes: Pants yes, shirts I am still getting by with what I have.  I need to get some tank tops though soon.  The ones I have are not only old but the stretching looks a bit funny.

Sleep:  Aside from the 3-4 times a night I get up to use the bathroom (i won't miss this part of pregnancy at all!) I am sleeping like a baby.

Best Moment this week:  Seeing Mudbug and hearing the heartbeat.  The baby was not a fan of the heartbeat monitor the doctor used.  Every time she found it the baby would start kicking or turning.

Worst Moment this week:  Realizing that the deployment is getting closer and closer... Ugh I hate reality setting in.

Miss anything:  Coffee.  Like 1-2 cups of regular coffee black with a touch of sugar.  Oh how I can't wait to

Food Cravings/Aversion:  I have been craving Thai food.  Thankfully it opens back up on April 2nd so I can finally get some yummy food.  Oddly enough I have noticed that the last 2-3 times I have had shrimp I have felt like crap afterwards.  It was cooked properly and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary so I don't know what happened.  I think I will lay off of it until after the baby is born.  I don't want to not like Shrimp from a few bad experiences during pregnancy.

Movement: Tons actually.  Mainly in the evenings and early morning but occasionally after eating.

Gender:  We know but we are waiting for a confirmation in a couple of weeks to confirm what we already know.

Belly Picture:  I guess I will have to break down and actually take one of these soon huh?

Looking forward to: The next baby appointment and Hunter coming out of the field very soon!

This week’s Baby Task: We are narrowing down choices in crib bedding, Updating registries, and ordering more cloth diapers so that I can prep them sooner while I still have the energy.
